Episode 26: The Basics About Gut Health

*This week we are going over the basics of gut health and how it affects the body systematically.

(2:25): The curse of knowledge – a lot of times they will forget the vast majority of the population do not know about the very basic fundamentals.

(3:53): This week we are going over the basics of gut health and how it affects the body systematically.

(4:26): This affects everybody – everyone can benefit from this podcast today.

(5:03): Gluten sensitivity can present itself in a very large percentage of the population.

(6:09): People equate having diarrhea as being the symptom for gluten sensitivity or other food sensitivities.

(6:20): People automatically think gastro intestinal, diarrhea, and bloating to be symptoms of gluten sensitivity.

(8:20): The difference between a gluten sensitivity and gluten allergy is that they are different inflammatory markers and test. Keep in mind you can have the same reaction to a sensitivity and an allergy.

(9:25): An allergy is not more severe than a sensitivity, and sensitivity is not more severe than an allergy.

(10:50): The reaction does not present itself any quicker or slower if it is a sensitivity or allergy.

(12:00): Migraines, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain and bloating, spikes of anxiety or depression, joint pains, reflux, and heartburn can be associated with food sensitivities.

(15:00): Jake knows that he has food sensitivities that lead him to have heartburn and reflux; he ignores it and treats the symptom when it occurs and not the problem. This can lead to him having an inflamed esophagus, and further damage to other autoimmune disorders from constant systemic inflammation.

(17:12): Jake has acute Inflammation, but he only notices it with heartburn. He has it, but it is not the most intense symptom he feels.

(19:05): The brain can generally only focus on one injured thing at a time.

(21:20): Jake would have told you he was living a perfect life as far as food goes, then after doing his first food sensitivity screen -his results came back with eggs being a high sensitivity, he took eggs out 95% of his diet.

(23:32): Initially, you may think you do not have any issues at all with any foods but then once you do a guy healing process and heal the gut you will be amazed with how you will feel or with the symptoms you were experiencing before and did not realize it.

(24:30): Gluten sensitivity doesn’t just come with diarrhea, it can come with anything, eczema, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis.

(25:18): Jenni at the age of 16 was taking oral steroids and medicated shampoo for her seborrheic dermatitis, and within 6 weeks of eliminating gluten, she stopped taking all medications.

(25:40): Jenni had no idea for 15 years! Then she took gluten out because of GI issues and it ended up helping her scalp.

(27:30): Contact us if you are wondering about your food sensitivities – we can do it anywhere, it does not have to be done in Naples, FL.

Dr. Jake Berman

After graduating from the University of Florida, Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT sought out mentorship first from Bob Seton in Destin, FL and then from Aaron Robles in Jacksonville, FL. Both of these mentors have 20+ years of experience helping people keep active and mobile so they can enjoy high quality active lifestyles. What Jake found was that back pain was by far the most debilitating pain and the highest factor leading to decreased physical activity later in life. These experiences are what inspired Jake to specialize in helping people aged 50+ keep active, mobile and pain free despite the aging process. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to alleviate somebody’s back pain so that they can get back to living their best life- especially in Naples! Over the years of helping 100’s of people aged 65-75 become stronger and pain free, one thing for sure has become apparent: “he who rests rots”. Jake is a firm believer that we become stiff then old, not old then stiff. Seriously, think about it...
