Episode 3: The 4 Pillars of Golf

The 4 Pillars of Golf

Episode #3 – The 4 Pillars of Golf

(1:50) What are we focusing on? Helping golfers over the age of 60 increase their distance off the tee! Maximizing their distance anywhere from 20-30 yards and drastically changing the way they approach the game of golf.

(2:40) Changing the way we approach the green or even approach a par 5, we are simplifying everything you need to transform your game and going from passive golfers to aggressive golfers!

(3:30) Being able to switch from playing defensively to offensively can completely change your game! Defensive golf could leave you to not commit on your next shot, which leads to thick shots and slices..

(5:00) Playing offensive golf allows you to attack the pin and commit to the shot that will give you a higher chance of success!

(6:25) For our clients, by increasing the distance off the tee and helping them hit the drive longer, they feel less pressure from other aspects of the game, leaving them to play more aggressively and more freely.

(6:30) What are the 4 pillars of golf?? There are 4 pillars that contribute to a good round of golf. Think about tires on a race car, if you want optimal performance you want all tires to have equal and optimal tire pressure!

(9:37) The first pillar of golf is Physical (the body’s ability to move), the second pillar is Technical which is the technical aspect of the swing your golf pro can teach you such as grip, setup, swing plane. One of the hardest pillars or “tires” to increase, but the most focused from golfers..

(10:52) Pillar number 3 is Strategic , which is the easiest pillar to improve. It’s as easy as going up to the tee box and setting the ego aside, playing with high course management and knowing your club is set up!

(12:00) The last pillar is the Mental pillar, which is the toughest aspect in golf. You can always sink a putt during practice but when it comes to betting your buddy for 5 bucks, you pull the putt and miss!! Why is this?

(12:35) The Mental pillar is one of the main reasons you see these guys on tour playing so well, this is because they have the mental capacity to thrive under pressure!

(13:10) Out of the 4 pillars the pillar or “tire” that has the lowest amount of capability for our clients over 60 is the Physical pillar, yet so few people focus on it!

(14:00) The most common answer when we ask our golfers what they have tried before coming to berman golf is: “golf lessons”, or “youtube”, “I watch the golf channel”.. But the number one thing we hear is that they watch the pros on tour, and that’s where they go wrong because they just simply aren’t the same age or have the same golfing ability, these guys are freaks and practice 8 hours a day!!

(21:00) Most guys on tour have the same swing physically but the biggest difference is that metal pillar. If we are looking at the top 100 golfers in the world they will have equal and optimal “tire pressure” or pillars, except the mental pillar… ONLY the top 10 golfers in the world will have all 4 pillars full, equal, and optimal.. And the tires the amateurs have range from golfer to golfer.

(22:00) focusing on your mental pillar will increase confidence.

(23:00) Where we see most of our aging golfers struggle is the physical pillar, which is completely opposite from the pros. We are seeing our golfers want to compete but their body just simply doesn’t let them.

Dr. Jake Berman

After graduating from the University of Florida, Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT sought out mentorship first from Bob Seton in Destin, FL and then from Aaron Robles in Jacksonville, FL. Both of these mentors have 20+ years of experience helping people keep active and mobile so they can enjoy high quality active lifestyles. What Jake found was that back pain was by far the most debilitating pain and the highest factor leading to decreased physical activity later in life. These experiences are what inspired Jake to specialize in helping people aged 50+ keep active, mobile and pain free despite the aging process. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to alleviate somebody’s back pain so that they can get back to living their best life- especially in Naples! Over the years of helping 100’s of people aged 65-75 become stronger and pain free, one thing for sure has become apparent: “he who rests rots”. Jake is a firm believer that we become stiff then old, not old then stiff. Seriously, think about it...
